What Cognia Accreditation Means for your Child

As we step into the new year, we’re excited to share a milestone that reflects the heart of our mission and the quality of care our children and families experience every day. ELB has been awarded Cognia Accreditation with Merit. Cognia is a highly respected organization that accredits schools using a rigorous review process, and earning accreditation with merit reflects strong quality across our programs and practices. What does that mean for families? It means you can feel confident that our school meets high standards for early learning, safety, and instructional quality—and that we’re committed to continuous improvement. This recognition affirms that our classroom practices, leadership, and learning environment are aligned with best practices in early childhood education.

What Does “Accredited with Merit” Mean? When ELB earned Cognia accreditation with Merit, it meant that external reviewers found the program exceeded expectations in key areas such as:

Leadership and governance

Teaching and learning practices

Use of data to improve outcomes

Family and community engagement

Organizational sustainability

This distinction reflects strong systems, not just good intentions.

Why Is Cognia Important in Early Childhood? While Cognia is widely recognized in K–12 education, only a small number of early childhood programs pursue and earn this accreditation.

For families and donors, Cognia accreditation means:

ELB operates with clear standards and accountability

Quality is reviewed by independent external experts

The program is committed to continuous improvement, not complacency

Decisions are guided by what works best for children

What Does This Mean for Children? For children ages 1–5, Cognia accreditation supports:

Consistent, intentional instruction

Strong classroom environments

Individualized learning supports

Smooth transitions to kindergarten

A program that continuously improves based on evidence

How Cognia Works Together with Texas Rising Star ELB is both:

Texas Rising Star 4-Star (highest state quality rating), and

Cognia-accredited with Merit (national accreditation)

Together, these recognitions show that ELB meets the highest state standards and demonstrates national-level excellence.

What This Means for Our Community Cognia accreditation strengthens ELB’s ability to:

Compete for national and regional grants

Partner with school districts and community organizations

Serve as a model for inclusive early learning

Sustain high-quality services for families long-term
